Middle East on Edge: Israel Targets Iranian Nuclear Facility, US B-2 Bombers Shift to Guam

JNS: In a major escalation, Israeli air strikes have reportedly hit multiple locations across Iran, including Isfahan, home to a critical nuclear facility, and Qom, where two senior IRGC commanders were killed — one of whom is believed to have masterminded the October 7 attacks.

Though Iranian authorities confirmed the nuclear site in Isfahan was targeted, they reported no radioactive leaks or major damage from the vicinity, easing fears of an immediate nuclear hazard.

The strikes mark one of the boldest direct attacks in the region in recent months, significantly heightening tensions between Iran and Israel.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials told Reuters that the Pentagon is moving B-2 stealth bombers to Guam, as part of a broader strategic posture. While they clarified that no formal orders have been issued to involve U.S. bombers in any Middle East conflict, the move comes amid ongoing discussions in Washington on whether the U.S. should support Israeli military operations against Iran.

The B-2 bombers, capable of carrying the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator — a 30,000-pound “bunker buster” designed to destroy deeply buried nuclear sites — are seen as a possible asset should strikes on Iranian facilities like Fordow be considered.

Though U.S. officials withheld the number of bombers being deployed and emphasized the Pacific-focused relocation, the timing underscores growing concern over the expanding regional crisis.

The situation remains fluid, with the potential for wider escalation depending on Iran’s response and Washington’s final stance on direct involvement.
