Johannesburg: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday capped a day of high-level engagements in South Africa by meeting Indian-origin tech entrepreneurs and members of the Indian community on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

Modi, who is in Johannesburg for the summit boycotted by US President Donald Trump, urged innovators, founders and business leaders of Indian origin to deepen ties with India and accelerate investments into the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
In a post on Saturday, the Prime Minister described the interaction as “fruitful,” noting that the entrepreneurs represented sectors such as fintech, agriculture, social media, education and healthcare. “Called upon them to strengthen their engagement with India and work closely with our people,” he added.

Later in the day, Modi addressed members of the Indian diaspora in South Africa, praising their role in nurturing cultural, social and economic linkages between the two countries. He said community members shared their experiences and lauded India’s progress across multiple sectors. Modi encouraged them to continue promoting Indian culture — including Yoga and Ayurveda — among South Africans.
A major highlight of his visit was a meeting with Naspers chairman Koos Bekker and CEO Fabricio Bloisi. The discussion focused on scaling up investments in India’s booming digital ecosystem.
“Naspers’ success in India reflects the ease of doing business and the strength of India’s startup ecosystem,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
Modi echoed the sentiment, noting that strengthening investment links remained a key priority. “It is commendable how Naspers is actively working with our talented youth across diverse sectors,” he said.
Earlier, Modi also held talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The two leaders reviewed progress in defence, security, critical minerals, trade, investment and people-to-people ties as India and Australia continue to elevate their strategic partnership.
