One Terrorist Killed as Gunfight Erupts in J&K’s Shopian; Operation Ongoing

Srinagar: A fierce gunbattle broke out between security forces and terrorists in the forested region of Shopian district, South Kashmir, on Tuesday, following an intelligence input about militant presence in the area.

According to security sources, the encounter initially began in nearby Kulgam and shifted to Shopian’s dense forest zone. Personnel from the Indian Army and paramilitary forces have been engaged in the operation for over two hours.

Initial reports suggest that four terrorists were believed to be hiding in the area. So far, at least one militant affiliated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been killed in the exchange of fire. The operation remains active as security forces continue to comb the area.

The gunfight comes just hours after posters appeared across Pulwama district, offering a reward of Rs 20 lakh for credible information on the perpetrators of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Security forces remain on high alert across South Kashmir as the situation develops.
