Owaisi Calls for Reinstating Pakistan on FATF Grey List, Cites Link to Decline in Terrorism

Algiers: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi has called for Pakistan to be re-listed on the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list, arguing it could lead to a reduction in global and regional terrorism.

During a diplomatic visit to Algeria as part of India’s outreach initiative following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Owaisi made a forceful appeal, asserting that terrorism thrives on “ideology and money”—both of which, he said, are actively supported by Pakistan.

“In Algeria, you’ve experienced the ‘Black Decade’ and continue to face security challenges in the south. We understand that pain,” Owaisi said during an address to Algerian officials. “If Pakistan is placed back on the FATF grey list, we’ll likely see a reduction in terrorist activity and civilian deaths in India, just like we did after 2018—with the support of Algeria and other countries.”

Highlighting Islamabad’s ongoing patronage of extremist networks, Owaisi described Pakistan as the “epicentre of Takfirism”—a radical ideology that underpins many terror groups. He drew ideological parallels between Pakistani militant groups and globally condemned outfits like Daesh (ISIS) and Al-Qaeda.

“These groups wrongly claim religious justification for violence. Islam forbids the killing of innocents, yet this false ideology persists,” he said.

Owaisi further accused Pakistan of using its nuclear capabilities to shield its support for terrorism. “They have openly trained, funded, and armed terrorists—and this is well-documented. It’s not just my claim; the evidence is widely available online,” he noted.

Owaisi’s comments come amid heightened security concerns in India following a series of recent attacks, with New Delhi seeking broader international cooperation to isolate and sanction terror-supporting states.
