Bokaro: Young poet and academic Parvati Tirkey, a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2025, was honoured with the Sneha Smriti Award at a literary evening held at Bokaro Club on Saturday.

The honour was conferred by chief guest Prahlad Chandra Das, who praised Tirkey’s deep connection with Jharkhand’s land, culture and tribal life. The Sneha Smriti Trust presented her with a cash award, memento, shawl, citation and a sapling. The poet also recited select verses from her acclaimed debut collection Phir Ugna, winning warm applause.

Trust advisor Mahadev Toppo said Tirkey’s poetry vividly brings tribal women and Kurukh culture to the forefront, making her a fitting choice for the honour. The event underscored the Trust’s mission to recognise voices supporting marginalised communities.

The evening featured a musical tribute by Mohan Veena exponent Sanjeev Majumdar. Two books—Manan by Kranti Srivastava and the anthology Sankal (compiled by late Rajkishore Srivastava, edited by Anil Kumar Srivastava)—were also released.

The programme, presided over by Mahadev Toppo and anchored by Dr. Sunita Singh and Pratima, concluded with a vote of thanks by Saket Kumar. A large gathering of writers, poets and literary enthusiasts attended the ceremony.
