JNS: In a landmark moment during his state visit to Cyprus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest civilian honour of the Republic of Cyprus. The award was presented by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides at a ceremonial event held at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

This honour marks a key highlight of Prime Minister Modi’s historic trip—the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the island nation in over two decades. The Grand Cross is bestowed in recognition of exceptional service and contribution to international cooperation and peace.

During a one-on-one meeting following the ceremonial welcome, President Christodoulides praised India’s global leadership and acknowledged PM Modi’s pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Cyprus.

Expressing deep gratitude, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to the 1.4 billion citizens of India, calling it a recognition of the country’s growing global stature.

The prestigious recognition adds to the long list of international honours received by PM Modi in recent years, underlining India’s rising profile on the world stage.
