Ravichandran Ashwin Announces Immediate Retirement from International Cricket

New Delhi: India’s star all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, has announced his immediate retirement from international cricket. The 38-year-old veteran made the surprise announcement shortly after the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia ended in a draw. Ashwin, who featured in just one of the first three Tests in the series, bowled a notable spell of 1 for 53 in the day-night match in Adelaide.

Ashwin leaves behind an illustrious career, having become India’s second-highest wicket-taker in both international and Test cricket. Since making his Test debut against the West Indies in Delhi on November 6, 2011, Ashwin claimed 537 wickets in 106 Tests, with only Anil Kumble (619 wickets) ahead of him. In addition to his remarkable bowling records, Ashwin has scored six centuries and 14 half-centuries in Test cricket.

Beyond Tests, Ashwin has represented India in 116 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 65 T20 Internationals, taking 156 and 72 wickets, respectively. Despite his retirement from international cricket, Ashwin will continue to participate in T20 tournaments and is set to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).
