Bokaro: A tragic obsession with shooting social media reels ended in disaster as a teenage boy lost his life and another remains critically injured after a horrific electrocution incident near a railway siding in Bokaro on Sunday.

The incident occurred within the limits of Balidih Police Station, near the Railway Goods Siding ‘N’ Cabin, where a group of 5–7 boys from Bari Co-operative Colony had gathered to film videos on their day off.

Eyewitnesses said that while some boys stayed on the ground recording videos, two teenagers—Kaushik Sharma (16) and Abhimanyu (16)—climbed atop a stationary goods train in a bid to capture dramatic footage. In a fatal moment of thrill-seeking, they raised their hands to pose, unknowingly coming dangerously close to an overhead 25,000-volt high-tension wire.

Within seconds, a loud blast accompanied by blue sparks ripped through the air as both boys were electrocuted and thrown off the train. The shocking scene left their friends in panic and disbelief.

Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), led by Officer-in-Charge Santosh Kumar, rushed to the spot along with local police. With the help of locals, both victims were immediately shifted to Bokaro General Hospital.

Doctors declared Kaushik Sharma brought dead on arrival. Abhimanyu, who suffered severe burns, is battling for life in the ICU, with his condition reported to be extremely critical.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the growing craze for risky social media content among teenagers, often with fatal consequences.
