New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s Maharatna steel producer, has supplied nearly 15,000 metric tonnes of steel for the 51-km-long Bairabi–Sairang Railway Project in Mizoram, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13.
The supply included around 10,000 MT of R-260 grade prime rail manufactured at SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant, while an additional 5,000 MT of plates, TMT bars and structural steel came from its units in Bokaro, Rourkela, Bhilai, Durgapur and Burnpur.
Seen as a game-changer for connectivity in the Northeast, the Bairabi–Sairang line will integrate Mizoram more closely with the national railway grid. Officials noted that SAIL’s participation underscores its vital role in powering India’s strategic infrastructure development.
Over the decades, SAIL steel has been at the core of some of the nation’s most iconic projects, including the Chenab Bridge in J&K, the Jiribam–Tupul–Imphal rail line, the Atal Tunnel in Himachal, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, and the Dhola–Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges in Assam.
Reiterating its commitment, the company said it would continue supplying the strength and quality needed to realise India’s ambitious infrastructure goals, further cementing its legacy as a trusted partner in nation-building.
