Srinagar: Multiple suspected drones were spotted over Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on Monday evening, shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address, triggering swift action from India’s air defence systems.
Defence sources confirmed that the drones were engaged immediately and that there was “no cause for alarm.” A video shared by ANI captured red flashes and loud blasts in the night sky as air defence systems responded during a reported blackout in the area.
The Indian Army stated, “A small number of suspected drones have been observed near Samba in J&K. They are being engaged. There is no reason for concern.” Later in the evening, an official update declared the situation “calm and under full control.”

The incident coincided with a region-wide power outage affecting Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Jammu. Precautionary blackouts were also reported at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and surrounding routes.
In nearby states, security measures intensified. In Amritsar, an air raid siren sounded and authorities enforced blackouts. “We are alert,” said Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, urging residents to stay indoors and away from windows.
Jalandhar’s Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal confirmed drone sighting reports near Suranassi, assuring the public that “there is nothing to worry” as armed forces remained on high alert.
Similar precautionary blackouts were observed in Dasuya and Mukerian towns in Hoshiarpur district.
The drone activity came just hours after the military operations chiefs of India and Pakistan spoke via hotline for the first time since the ceasefire agreement, reaffirming their commitment to avoid aggressive actions.
Authorities urged residents to stay calm and await updates on the restoration of electricity.
