JNS: A quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck significant portions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, killing at least 13 and injuring over 200.
The epicentre of the 194 km (120.5 mi) deep earthquake was near the remote northern Afghan province of Badakhshan, in the Hindu Kush Mountains. The earthquake caused structural damage, created landslides, and brought panicked residents onto the streets last night, sources said.
According to reports, nine individuals were killed in Pakistan, and four were slain in Afghanistan. While the quake was felt over much of Afghanistan and perhaps more of Pakistan, the death toll may increase.
India, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan are among the nations hit. North India, encompassing the National Capital Region, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, experienced strong earthquakes.
