Southwest Monsoon Set for Early Arrival; onset over Kerala during the next 48 to 72 hours

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an early onset of the Southwest Monsoon this year, with monsoon rains expected to reach Kerala within the next two to three days.

In its latest bulletin, the IMD has also issued a series of rainfall warnings across multiple regions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat during the coming days. Meanwhile, Northeast India—including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—is set to receive intense rainfall through Sunday.

States like West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand are also expected to see heavy showers until tomorrow. Light rain has been forecast for Delhi-NCR today, while Rajasthan is on alert for stormy weather with wind speeds expected to reach 40–50 km/h through Friday.

Delhi experienced a dramatic weather shift last evening, with heavy showers and hailstorm hitting several areas. The sudden storm provided much-needed relief from the sweltering heat but caused significant disruptions. Strong winds uprooted trees, impacted traffic, disrupted Delhi Metro operations, and delayed multiple flights at the airport.

The early arrival of the monsoon could bring both relief and challenges, with authorities closely monitoring weather developments across the affected regions.
