New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced a revamped 65-member national team under party president Nitin Nabin, bringing a strong mix of experience, younger leaders and women into key organisational positions. Of the 13 national vice-presidents, six are women, while former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed one of the party’s eight national general secretaries.
The six women appointed national vice-presidents are Vasundhara Raje Scindia, D. Purandeswari, Bharti Pawar, Varsha Doshi, Rekha Verma and Madhuchhanda Kar. The appointments give women a sizeable presence in one of the BJP’s most important organisational tiers, alongside several other women leaders in national-level roles.

Among the other prominent women appointments are Kavita Patidar, S. Phangnon Konyak and Sangeeta Yadav, who have been given responsibilities as national secretaries. Roopkumari Choudhary has been appointed president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, while Preeti Gandhi has been given an organisational role linked to the party’s social-media setup.
Smriti Irani’s elevation as national general secretary is among the most closely watched changes in the reshuffle. The former Union minister, who previously represented Amethi in the Lok Sabha, returns to a prominent organisational position at a time when the BJP is preparing for a series of electoral battles. Her experience and political profile could be particularly significant for the party’s strategy in Uttar Pradesh, where Assembly elections are due.
The wider reshuffle also underlines the BJP’s attempt to balance continuity with change. Fifty-one of the 65 office-bearers are new, according to reports, while veterans such as Vasundhara Raje have been retained and leaders including Ram Madhav have returned to key positions. The party has indicated that the reorganisation is aimed at strengthening its preparations for Assembly elections and the longer-term electoral challenges leading up to 2029.
The composition also carries a clear message on representation and organisational outreach. Besides women, the new team includes leaders from different regions and social backgrounds, with reports noting representation from minority communities as well. The BJP’s new structure therefore seeks to combine experience, youth, regional balance and wider social representation as Nitin Nabin begins to shape the party organisation under his leadership.
