Giridih: A Muharram procession in Changosingha village under the Ghorthamba OP area of Giridih district turned tragic when a steel Tazia accidentally came into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension power line.
The shocking incident occurred mid-procession, causing a fatal electric current to surge through the Tazia. One youth died on the spot, while six others sustained serious burn injuries, with two in critical condition. The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
The accident has left the village in deep mourning, casting a pall of sorrow over what was meant to be a solemn religious observance.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the mishap. Meanwhile, the district administration has assured all possible medical support and is coordinating with the power department to assess the safety lapses.
