XLRI Hosts Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan for Insightful Talk on Industrial Dispute Resolution

Jamshedpur: XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, hosted Jharkhand Advocate General Shri Rajiv Ranjan for a compelling session on “The Role of the State in Resolving Industrial Disputes,” engaging MBA-HRM students in a dynamic exploration of law, policy, and industrial harmony.

Held as part of the Labour Law Applications course led by Mr. Harbhajan Singh, Chief Strategy & HR, XLRI Delhi-NCR, the session blended real-world legal insights with academic rigor. Drawing on decades of experience in constitutional, labour, and criminal law, Shri Ranjan explained the crucial role the state plays not just as a regulator but also as a mediator in industrial disputes.

He emphasized the importance of mutual trust between workers and management, underpinned by sensitive legal enforcement. Referencing landmark judgments and provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act, he shared cases from Jharkhand and across India to illustrate evolving trends in labour relations.

Highlighting Jharkhand’s industrial landscape, he called Tata Steel India’s first Swadeshi company and mapped the Jamshedpur-Bokaro-Rourkela triangle as a critical industrial hub.

A lively Q&A followed, with students raising pertinent questions on labour reforms, legal enforcement, and judiciary roles. Shri Ranjan responded with clarity, demystifying complex legal frameworks for future HR leaders.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Paramjyot Singh. Shri Ranjan also met with Prof. Sanjay Patro (Dean–Academics) and Dr. (Fr.) Donald D’Silva, S.J. (Dean–Administration & Finance), and praised XLRI for nurturing industry-ready talent with legal acumen.

XLRI continues to promote impactful engagement at the intersection of law, management, and public policy through such enriching sessions.
