ED Raids Ex-CM Bhupesh Baghel’s Residence in Bhilai Over Liquor Scam

Bhilai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday morning raided the residence of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in Bhilai as part of its investigation into the alleged ₹2,100 crore liquor scam. The agency also searched locations linked to his son, Chaitanya Baghel, who resides in the same house.

According to officials, the action was based on new evidence uncovered during the ongoing probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED alleges that the scam caused heavy losses to the state treasury and generated illegal earnings for a liquor syndicate. Chaitanya Baghel is suspected of benefiting from the scam proceeds.

Reacting to the raid, Bhupesh Baghel posted a message on social media platform X, calling the ED action a political conspiracy. He said that the raid was carried out on the last day of the state assembly session and declared that he would resist such tactics strongly.

This is not the first time the Baghel family has come under the ED’s scanner. In March this year, the agency had conducted raids against Chaitanya Baghel in connection with the same case.

The ED’s operation is still underway, and officials are reportedly examining financial records and other documents. The alleged liquor scam has become a major political flashpoint in Chhattisgarh, and further developments are expected soon.
