Gaya: Fear gripped Bihar’s Gaya district on Saturday morning after unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on a renowned retired government doctor, Tapeshwar Prasad, in the busy Sheikhpura locality of Sherghati town.
According to City SP Ramanand Kumar Kaushal, the doctor was returning from a field visit when the attackers fired 3–4 rounds, one of which struck him near the jaw. The injured doctor, who also runs a private clinic, was rushed to Magadh Medical College Hospital and later referred to Patna for advanced treatment. His condition is reported to be stable and out of danger.
Eyewitnesses said two bullets narrowly missed the target. As panic spread, locals reacted swiftly, hurling stones at the assailants, forcing them to flee on a bike, reportedly an Apache. In the chaos, the criminals dropped a loaded pistol, which has since been recovered by the police.
Taking the matter seriously, senior police officials including Gaya SSP Anand Kumar, City SP Kaushal, and ASP Shailendra Singh reached the spot and began a thorough investigation. Multiple raids are underway, and authorities have vowed swift arrests.
ASP Singh confirmed, “A loaded firearm has been recovered. The criminals will be caught soon.”
