Mumbai on High Alert Ahead of Ganesh Visarjan

JNS: Mumbai has been placed on high alert after police received a chilling WhatsApp message threatening to kill one crore people through a massive bomb blast allegedly planned by a group calling itself Lashkar-e-Jihadi, media reports said.

According to the message sent to the Traffic Police helpline, “34 human bombs” loaded with “400 kg of RDX” have been planted in 34 vehicles across the city. The group claimed the blasts would “shake the entire city.”

The threat comes on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi—a day marking the conclusion of the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, when millions of devotees throng the streets for Ganesh idol immersion processions. Given the scale of gatherings during Ganesh Visarjan, security agencies are treating the message with utmost seriousness.

Police have stepped up security across the city and Maharashtra, deploying additional forces at sensitive spots and along major immersion routes. “Public safety is paramount, and all necessary precautions are being taken,” officials said.

The latest scare comes just a day after a 43-year-old man was arrested for issuing a hoax bomb threat to Thane Railway Station. However, authorities say the current threat, with its scale and timing, cannot be ignored.
