New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of flood- and landslide-affected areas in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, underscoring the central government’s firm commitment to support disaster-hit regions.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister assessed the widespread destruction caused by heavy rains and landslides. He held a high-level review meeting with state officials and announced an immediate relief package of ₹1,500 crore for rehabilitation efforts. Additionally, an ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh for next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the seriously injured was announced.
Interacting directly with affected families and relief workers, Mr. Modi expressed deep empathy, while commending the relentless efforts of NDRF, SDRF, the Army, and Aapda Mitra volunteers engaged in rescue and relief operations.

Turning to Punjab, PM Modi visited Gurdaspur, conducted an aerial survey of submerged areas, and reviewed damage reports. A fresh financial aid of ₹1,600 crore was announced, adding to the ₹12,000 crore already allocated to the state. Furthermore, the second instalment of the State Disaster Relief Fund and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will be released in advance to support the farmers.
According to official sources, 2,097 villages across Punjab have been impacted, with over 3.88 lakh people affected. So far, 52 lives have been lost, with three still missing in Pathankot. Vast crop areas are submerged, and hundreds of livestock have perished.
The Prime Minister’s visit and direct engagement brought solace to the affected population, reinforcing the message that the Union Government stands in solidarity until full recovery is achieved.
