Zelenskyy Condemns Russian Attack Amid Rising Civilian Casualties in Ukraine

Glide Bomb Hits Pension Collectors in Yarova Village

JNS: At least 24 civilians were killed and 19 injured when a Russian glide bomb struck a group collecting pensions in the village of Yarova, Donetsk region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed on Wednesday.

Describing the attack as “horrendous”, Zelenskyy posted on X that the strike targeted vulnerable civilians amid Russia’s relentless assault on Ukraine. He condemned the lack of a strong global response to the growing humanitarian catastrophe.

The UN’s Assistant Secretary-General Matthias Schmale highlighted the deepening crisis, noting that many elderly in frontline communities are forced to remain trapped at home, despite escalating attacks. “Civilian casualties are rising sharply as violence intensifies,” he said, calling the targeting of civilians “unconscionable.”

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised alarm over relentless attacks on healthcare infrastructure, reporting that over 800 drones and missiles were used in recent Russian strikes—marking one of the largest bombardments since the war began in February 2022.

Dr. Jarno Habicht, WHO’s representative in Ukraine, warned that ambulances are being attacked and chronically ill patients are left without care, leaving millions facing a brutal winter amid constant fear.

This tragic event underscores the brutal toll of the war, as innocent civilians continue to pay the price of a conflict with no end in sight.
