PM Modi Sets Vision for 2047 Self-Reliant India
JNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today warned that India’s reliance on foreign nations is one of the country’s greatest challenges and stressed that self-reliance is key to achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Addressing the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ programme, Modi unveiled his government’s ambitious roadmap to make India a global maritime powerhouse. He announced plans to triple India’s share in global maritime trade by 2047, highlighting that national pride, peace, and prosperity depend on reducing foreign dependence.
“The future of 140 crore Indians cannot rest in external hands. The solution to a hundred challenges is building an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the Prime Minister asserted, warning that reliance on others compromises national self-respect.

During the programme, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹32,000 crore, including the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal and several major maritime initiatives valued at more than ₹7,800 crore. He said India’s coastlines, long symbols of prosperity, are set to become gateways to the nation’s future growth.
Highlighting reforms in the maritime sector, the Prime Minister announced the “One Nation, One Port Procedure” to streamline port operations nationwide and called the recent passage of five maritime-related bills a “game-changer” that will modernize port governance. He also criticized previous governments for policies that weakened India’s maritime strength and increased foreign dependence.
Later, Modi visited Lothal near Ahmedabad to inspect the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), a ₹4,500-crore project celebrating India’s rich maritime legacy at the ancient Indus Valley trading hub. He chaired a review meeting and assessed completed works.
The Prime Minister concluded his visit with an aerial survey of Dholera Smart City, reiterating the government’s commitment to combining modern infrastructure with India’s historical maritime strengths.
