New Delhi: Legendary Malayalam actor, director, and producer Mohanlal was honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, the highest accolade in Indian cinema, at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony held today. The award recognized his iconic contributions to the film industry over decades.

President Droupadi Murmu, while presenting the awards, highlighted cinema as a powerful medium for social awareness and urged filmmakers to ensure Indian films gain global recognition. She also appreciated the growing presence and recognition of women-centric films in the industry.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a hub for content creation, citing initiatives like the Indian Institute of Creative Technology in Mumbai and the Waves Bazaar platform helping Indian content reach new markets.

• Best Director: Sudipto Sen (The Kerala Story)

• Best Popular Film: Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

• Best Female Playback Singer: Shilpa Rao (Jawan)

• Best Male Playback Singer: PVNS Rohit (Baby, Telugu)

• Best Non-Feature Film: Mau: The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw (Mizo)

The ceremony celebrated excellence in filmmaking, storytelling, and acting, showcasing the diverse talent across Indian cinema today.
