Jerusalem/Gaza: In a dramatic development marking the end of a two-year hostage crisis, Hamas on Monday released all remaining living Israeli captives under a newly brokered ceasefire deal with Israel, officials confirmed.

The release comes more than two years after the deadly October 7, 2023, attacks in which Hamas abducted 251 people from northern Israel. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the militant group freed seven hostages earlier in the day and the final 13 later on Monday.

“According to information provided by the Red Cross, 13 hostages have been transferred into their custody and are on their way to IDF and ISA forces in Gaza,” the Israeli military said in a statement on X. The freed hostages are now being processed by Israeli forces before reuniting with their families.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israel is expected to release 250 Palestinian prisoners and more than 1,700 detainees, BBC reported. Monday’s exchange officially ends Hamas’s custody of any surviving hostages from the 2023 assault.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Israel earlier in the day and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Sources told CNN the two discussed Netanyahu’s possible participation in a high-level Gaza summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
The summit — to be co-chaired by Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi — aims to gather leaders from over 20 nations to deliberate on Gaza’s post-war reconstruction and future governance.
