New Delhi: The United States has placed India at the very centre of its global strategy, with US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor declaring that “no partner is more essential than India” as Washington looks to deepen diplomatic, economic and strategic ties with New Delhi.
Speaking at the US Embassy, Gor said bilateral trade negotiations have formally resumed this week, signalling renewed momentum in efforts to finalise a long-pending economic agreement between the two democracies.

Trade talks resume, momentum builds
Gor confirmed that officials from both sides are back at the negotiating table, with further rounds of talks expected soon. While acknowledging the complexity of striking a trade deal with the world’s most populous nation, he underlined Washington’s resolve to see the process through.
Trade, he said, remains a key pillar of the relationship, alongside cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education and healthcare.
‘Real friends can disagree’
Highlighting the personal rapport between Donald Trump and Narendra Modi, the envoy-designate described the India–US bond as one rooted in trust and mutual respect.
“Strong relationships allow room for disagreements, but real friends always resolve their differences,” Gor remarked, stressing that engagement at the highest political level continues to anchor the partnership.
Trump visit to India likely
Adding a diplomatic tease, Gor indicated that President Trump could visit India within the next one to two years. Recalling Trump’s previous India visit, he said the former president still speaks warmly about his engagement with Prime Minister Modi and views India as a critical global partner.
He described the relationship as a unique convergence between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy.
India invited to Pax Silica Alliance
In a significant strategic announcement, Gor revealed that India will be invited next month to join the Pax Silica Alliance as a full member. The US-led initiative aims to build a secure, resilient and innovation-driven global silicon and semiconductor supply chain.
Calling the move a natural step forward, Gor said the decision reflects growing trust in India’s technological capabilities and its role in shaping future global supply chains.
With trade talks revived, a possible presidential visit on the horizon, and deeper cooperation in cutting-edge sectors, Washington’s message was clear: India is no longer just an important partner—it is indispensable.
