Ranchi: Aditya Sahu was formally named the new Jharkhand state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, capping a four-decade-long organisational journey that began at the grassroots level.

Sahu joined the BJP in 1980 at the age of 17 as a booth worker in Ormanjhi. His steady rise through the party ranks saw him become booth president in 1984, a member of the Ormanjhi Mandal Working Committee in 1989, and Mandal general secretary in 1991.

His organisational responsibilities expanded in Ranchi district, where he served as a working committee member in 1995, district membership in-charge in 1996, and district vice president in 1999. Sahu held the post of Ranchi district vice president until 2002 and went on to serve two consecutive terms as district president from 2003 to 2010.

In 2010, he was inducted into the BJP’s state working committee, a position he held until 2014, before being appointed state vice president from 2015 to 2019.

Congratulating Sahu, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth expressed confidence that his organisational experience and commitment would further strengthen the party in Jharkhand. Seth said the BJP’s expansion in the state would gain fresh momentum, alongside renewed efforts towards the conservation of water, forests and land, and wished Sahu a successful tenure as state president.
