Bokaro: The Inter-Steel Plant Cricket Championship 2025–26 commenced at the Bokaro Steel Plant Cricket Stadium on February 10, drawing participation from teams across major steel plants and units. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest S.K. Bhardwaj, Chief General Manager-in-Charge and Executive Director (Finance & Accounts), in the presence of Chief General Manager (City Services) Kundan Kumar, General Manager (Communications & Administration) C.R.K. Sudhanshu, General Manager (CED) A.K. Avinash, along with other officials and cricket enthusiasts.
Addressing the gathering, Bhardwaj underscored the importance of sports in fostering healthy competition and teamwork, stating that such initiatives help strengthen unity, coordination and a sense of camaraderie among employees. He described the championship as a valuable platform that contributes to both personal development and professional bonding.
Nine teams are competing in the tournament, representing steel plants and industrial units from across the country. The championship, which runs until February 14, witnessed an exciting opening day with Rourkela Steel Plant defeating Tata Steel by six wickets, JSW–Bellary securing an eight-wicket win over Bhilai Steel Plant, and hosts Bokaro Steel Plant registering a 35-run victory against Durgapur Steel Plant.
The championship aims to promote sportsmanship and reinforce mutual cooperation among India’s steel plants, while providing employees an opportunity to engage beyond the workplace through competitive sport.
