News Desk: In a major counter-intelligence operation, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested a serving Indian Navy personnel on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The accused, identified as Adarsh Kumar, also known as Lucky, is a 24-year-old resident of Agra. Officials said he was serving as a lance naik with the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, a strategically important naval base.
Intelligence Tip-Off Leads to Arrest
According to ATS officials, the arrest followed intelligence inputs suggesting that a person working in a sensitive defence establishment was in contact with a Pakistan-based ISI handler and was allegedly passing confidential information related to India’s naval infrastructure.
After receiving the tip-off, investigators launched a detailed probe involving electronic surveillance, technical monitoring and field verification. The investigation eventually led to the identification of Adarsh Kumar, who was suspected of maintaining communication with a foreign intelligence operative.

Alleged Leak of Sensitive Naval Information
During the investigation, officials found evidence indicating that the accused had allegedly shared sensitive details linked to naval installations and assets. Investigators believe that photographs and information related to strategic military infrastructure may have been transmitted to the Pakistan-based handler.
Preliminary findings also suggest that the contact between the accused and the suspected ISI operative had been established through social media, possibly through a honey-trap method commonly used in espionage operations.
Legal Action and Ongoing Probe
Following verification of the evidence, the ATS arrested Kumar and produced him before a court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.
Security agencies are now examining the extent of the information that may have been shared and whether any other individuals are linked to the espionage network. Officials said the investigation is continuing to determine the full scope of the alleged breach and identify possible accomplices.
The case has raised fresh concerns over attempts by foreign intelligence agencies to target Indian defence personnel through digital platforms and covert communication channels.
