JNS | Haryana: In a major advancement for India’s indigenous defence programme, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a trial of a high-calibre bomb at its Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) test facility in Ramgarh, Panchkula district, on Sunday.
The trial, carried out under tight security and in the presence of senior Indian Air Force (IAF) officials, was completed successfully, with authorities confirming that all operational and safety parameters were met during the exercise.
The test took place at the strategically important Ramgarh Test Range, one of DRDO’s key facilities for evaluating advanced explosives, ammunition systems, blast effects, fragmentation behaviour, and weapon technologies. Officials said the trial forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance India’s indigenous weapons development capabilities and strengthen the combat preparedness of the armed forces.

Extensive Security Measures Enforced
Ahead of the high-intensity test, authorities implemented extensive security arrangements across the surrounding areas. Residents of nearby villages, including Bhanu and Billa, were advised to remain indoors during the designated testing period from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
According to official advisories, fragments generated during the explosion could travel significant distances, with splinters capable of reaching heights of nearly 1.5 kilometres and affecting an area within a two-kilometre radius of the blast site. As a precaution, movement in sensitive zones was restricted while surveillance and monitoring were intensified.
Push for Self-Reliance in Defence
The successful trial highlights DRDO’s continued efforts to develop advanced indigenous weapon systems under India’s defence modernisation and self-reliance initiatives. TBRL remains one of the country’s premier armament research establishments, responsible for testing and validating explosives, warheads, ammunition systems, and terminal ballistics technologies for military applications.
Defence analysts view such trials as critical for assessing the performance, reliability, and safety of advanced munitions before their induction into operational service. While officials did not disclose technical details of the bomb tested, the exercise is expected to support the development of next-generation precision strike and battlefield weapon systems.
The latest achievement adds to a series of recent DRDO successes in missile technology, precision-guided munitions, advanced weapon systems, and aerospace research, further reinforcing India’s emergence as a growing global defence technology power.
