Bokaro: Strengthening its commitment to sustainable rural development, ESL Steel Limited has launched the ‘Millet Mission’ under its Project WADI & CLAP (Community Livelihood and Agricultural Programme) to promote climate-resilient agriculture, improve nutrition, enhance farmers’ income, and empower rural women across its operational areas.
The initiative aims to bring 500 acres under millet cultivation, encouraging farmers to adopt nutritious and climate-resilient crops that require less water and can withstand adverse weather conditions. ESL Steel will support farmers through technical guidance, capacity-building programmes, and market linkages to ensure sustainable cultivation and better returns.
A key feature of the mission is the active involvement of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in millet processing, packaging, and marketing, creating additional livelihood opportunities while strengthening women’s economic participation.
The programme was formally launched at the ESL Skill School in the presence of Kunal Daripa, Head-CSR; Aakarsh Pandey, Project Lead-WADI & CLAP; Ved Prakash Singh, Project Coordinator, Gramin Seva Sangh; and Anjani Kumar Sinha, Trainer under WADI & CLAP.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravish Sharma, CEO and Whole-Time Director of ESL Steel Limited, said the Millet Mission reflects the company’s commitment to building self-reliant rural communities through sustainable farming practices that improve livelihoods while conserving natural resources.
With the launch of the initiative, ESL Steel aims to strengthen sustainable agriculture, improve food security, and create long-term economic opportunities for farming families across Jharkhand through climate-smart farming and inclusive rural development.
