Glasgow: The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded on Sunday with a colourful closing ceremony at The Hydro, as Ahmedabad formally took over the baton to host the historic 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.
In a symbolic handover, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha received the Commonwealth Games flag and ceremonial baton, officially beginning India’s countdown to Ahmedabad 2030. The moment marked the transition from Glasgow to India, which will stage the Games for only the second time after New Delhi 2010.
The ceremony began at 9 pm Glasgow time (BST), or 8 pm GMT/UTC — 1.30 am IST on Monday, August 3 — and brought the curtain down on the streamlined Glasgow Games, which featured 10 sports.
India used the handover to offer a glimpse of what the Commonwealth can expect in 2030. A vibrant cultural presentation featuring Shankar Mahadevan, Rashmika Mandanna and sitarist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma blended music, dance and Indian traditions as Ahmedabad was introduced as the next host city.

The Glasgow finale also celebrated Scottish music and culture, with legendary rock band Simple Minds among the headline acts. Diversity, Delta Goodrem and other performers featured in a ceremony that brought Scottish and Indian elements together to mark the transition between the two hosts.
The 2030 Games will carry special significance as they will celebrate 100 years of the Commonwealth Games, which began in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. Ahmedabad was formally confirmed as host in November 2025 and will now have four years to prepare for the landmark edition.
India’s Jaismine Lamboria, who won boxing gold at Glasgow 2026, was chosen as the country’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony.
With the Glasgow Games now over, the Commonwealth sporting spotlight shifts to Gujarat. The handover has formally fired the starting gun on Ahmedabad’s four-year journey towards hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030.
