Ramgarh: Nemra, the ancestral village of legendary Jharkhand leader and JMM founder ‘Dishom Guru’ Shibu Soren, turned into a sea of people on Tuesday as thousands gathered to commemorate his first death anniversary. The emotionally charged event witnessed Chief Minister Hemant Soren unveiling a 14-foot bronze statue of his father at the Lukaiyatand Martyr Memorial Complex before paying floral tributes alongside members of the Soren family, ministers, MLAs, MPs and party workers.

Addressing the gathering, Hemant Soren hailed Shibu Soren as the undisputed architect of the Jharkhand movement whose lifelong struggle safeguarded the identity, rights and dignity of the state’s tribal communities. Recalling Guruji’s relentless fight for jal, jungle aur zameen, the Chief Minister said his father’s sacrifices laid the foundation for the creation of Jharkhand and continue to inspire generations committed to social justice and indigenous rights.

The occasion was not limited to remembrance alone. Reinforcing the government’s development agenda, Hemant Soren distributed benefits under various welfare schemes and virtually inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹102 crore. The initiatives covered infrastructure, public welfare and rural development, underscoring the government’s focus on inclusive progress.

The anniversary observance transformed Nemra into a symbolic centre of Jharkhand’s political and cultural legacy, where tributes to the state’s tallest mass leader were coupled with renewed promises to advance the ideals of equity, empowerment and development that Shibu Soren championed throughout his public life.
