Axiom-4 Mission Carrying Indian Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Postponed to June 11 Due to Bad Weather

Florida: The eagerly awaited Axiom-4 space mission, which is set to carry Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla to the International Space Station (ISS), has been postponed by a day due to adverse weather conditions, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), ISRO stated, “Due to weather conditions, the launch of Axiom-4 mission for sending Indian Gaganyatri to the International Space Station is postponed from 10th June 2025 to 11th June 2025. The targeted time of launch is 5:30 PM IST on 11th June 2025.”

The Axiom-4 mission, part of a historic collaboration between NASA and ISRO, marks India’s second human spaceflight and its first to the ISS. Dubbed Mission Akash Ganga, the mission was born out of a strategic commitment made by former US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen Indo-US cooperation in space exploration.

As part of the mission, the two space agencies are working together on five joint scientific investigations and two STEM-based in-orbit demonstrations. The mission will see the crew spend 14 days aboard the orbiting International Space Laboratory, conducting a range of scientific experiments.

This is now the fourth delay the mission has encountered, with the most recent postponement pushing the launch from June 8 to June 10 before the current deferral. All delays have been attributed to unfavorable weather conditions at the launch site.

The launch will take place from the iconic Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida — the same site from where Apollo 11’s Neil Armstrong began his legendary journey to the moon in 1969.

The mission not only advances India’s human spaceflight ambitions but also underscores the deepening space partnership between New Delhi and Washington.
