BJP-led Mahayuti set to sweep Maharashtra, JMM-Congress ahead in Jharkhand

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti coalition is on course for a decisive victory in Maharashtra’s assembly elections, held on November 20. Early trends show that Mahayuti, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar), is leading in over 200 of the 288 seats.

In contrast, the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi is trailing with approximately 60 seats. If these trends hold, Mahayuti will make a significant political comeback in the state after facing a setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the contest remains tight between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Initially, both alliances were locked in a close race, but as the day progressed, the JMM-Congress combine began to pull ahead. As of the latest update, the JMM-Congress-led INDIA alliance is leading in 51 seats, while the BJP-led NDA holds 28 seats, with other parties securing 2 seats.

The JMM-Congress alliance is seeking a second consecutive term, leveraging its performance over the past five years, while the BJP-led NDA has emphasized promises of development and the backing of the central government to sway voters.
