Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee Offers Butter Lamps for Earthquake Victims in Myanmar and Thailand

Gaya: In a gesture of solidarity and compassion, the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), along with its Chairman, Secretary, monks, and staff, offered butter lamps while chanting prayers for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday.

The powerful 7.7 magnitude quake, which hit Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, has resulted in the tragic loss of over 1,000 lives, with the death toll still rising.

The earthquake caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including valuable monuments, and left many in desperate need of aid. In neighboring Thailand, a skyscraper under construction was severely damaged, further exacerbating the region’s devastation.

In response to the immense loss and suffering, the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee expressed its deepest condolences and performed the offering of butter lamps as an act of prayer for the souls of the deceased and for those affected by the tragedy. This offering was made with the hope of bringing peace to the victims and aiding in the healing process.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar and Thailand during this difficult time,” said a statement from the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee. “May our prayers and offerings bring comfort and strength to the victims and their families.”

The earthquake, followed by powerful aftershocks, has left a vast area in crisis, with search efforts still underway to find survivors. The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee remains dedicated to offering its heartfelt prayers for the swift recovery of all those impacted by the disaster.
