Bokaro: The newly elected representatives of the Chas Municipal Corporation were sworn in on Tuesday during a ceremony held at the corporation auditorium. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha administered the oath of office to Mayor Bholu Paswan and councillors elected from all 35 wards.

During the ceremony, the elected members pledged to work for the city’s development, sanitation, transparency and public welfare.

In a similar event at the Phusro Municipal Council auditorium, Deputy Development Commissioner Shatabdi Majumdar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chairperson Nirmala Devi along with councillors from 28 wards.

Meanwhile, under the Municipal General Elections 2026, the indirect elections for the posts of Deputy Mayor in Chas and Vice-Chairperson in Phusro were conducted peacefully among the newly elected ward members.

In Chas, Ward No. 22 councillor Pooja Kumari defeated Amar Swarnakar (Ward No. 15) in the Deputy Mayor contest. Out of 35 ward members, 33 valid votes were cast, with Pooja Kumari securing 19 votes against Swarnakar’s 14.

The result was officially declared by Returning Officer-cum-SDO Pranjal Dhanda, who handed over the certificate of election to Pooja Kumari. Meanwhile, Renu Devi emerged victorious in the race for Vice-Chairperson of Phusro Municipal Council.
