Jamshedpur: The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) recently hosted Professor Chetan Singh Solanki, a prominent figure from IIT Bombay and Founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, for a special visit and lecture.
Dr. Sandeep Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of NML, extended a warm welcome to Prof. Solanki in the morning. The visit began with a meeting involving all Heads of Divisions, focusing on strategies to optimize energy consumption within the laboratory.
Following the meeting, Professor Solanki was formally introduced to the audience at the NML auditorium.
He delivered an impactful lecture titled “6-Point Understanding of Climate Change & Corrective Actions.” In his address, Professor Solanki underscored the accelerating pace of climate change, despite global efforts such as the Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, and numerous COP meetings.
Drawing from his extensive experience, including his Energy Swaraj Yatra—a unique journey in a solar bus aimed at raising awareness and driving action towards climate correction— Professor Solanki emphasized the urgent need for a shift to a 100% solar-powered lifestyle. He argued that reliance on carbon-based energy sources is a primary driver of climate change and proposed a fundamental rethinking of energy generation and consumption. Professor Solanki urged for “drastic” and “immediate” changes in energy patterns, advocating a three-step AMG (Avoid – Minimize – Generate) approach as a path towards sustainability.
Following the lecture, Dr. Ghosh Chowdhury expressed gratitude and presented Prof. Solanki with a token of appreciation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S.K. Pal, Head of RPBD, and a rendition of the Solar Anthem by the Energy Swaraj Foundation, followed by the National Anthem.
