JNS: In a shocking incident, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and senior officials crashed in northwestern Iran, according to media reports. The crash occurred on Sunday as President Raisi was returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan.
The president’s convoy included three helicopters, with the other two carrying ministers and officials landing safely, as reported by Tasnim news agency. Among those on board the other helicopters were Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, the Friday prayers leader of Tabriz.
The crash took place upon landing in the Varzaqan region. As of now, it remains unclear if there were any injuries reported from the incident. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site. Further details are awaited as the situation develops.
