New Delhi: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that no radiation leak occurred in Pakistan following the recent military escalation with India during Operation Sindoor. This statement quashes widespread social media rumors suggesting Indian strikes targeted Pakistani nuclear facilities.
An IAEA spokesperson told PTI, “Based on available information, there has been no radiation leak or release from any nuclear facility in Pakistan.”
The clarification follows speculation that India had struck the Kirana Hills, believed to house Pakistani nuclear assets. Dismissing the claims, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, stated in a May 12 briefing, “We have not hit Kirana Hills, whatever is there.”
India had officially acknowledged targeting an airbase in Sargodha, prompting theories linking it to nearby underground nuclear storage. However, Indian officials firmly reiterated that the operations were strictly conventional.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also denied U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion of mediating to prevent a nuclear crisis. “There was no nuclear escalation, nor was there any indication of such,” Jaiswal said, reaffirming India’s commitment to responsible military engagement.
