India, Fiji sign MoU on visa exemption

JNS: India and Fiji have agreed to exempt diplomatic and official passport holders from visa requirements.

Under this agreement, diplomatic and official passport holders will be able to enter, transit, and stay in each other’s territory for up to 90 days without a visa. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar.

Dr. S. Jaishankar, at a press conference held jointly by the two countries in Fiji, remarked on the close and long-standing connections between India and Fiji. He stated that the solarization of the State House in Suva had been officially opened by India and Fiji, adding that this was the first such project that India will be funding in the Pacific. In his opinion, this shows India’s dedication to addressing climate change.

Dr. Jaishankar believes the visa waiver deal will facilitate increased travel between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India for his country’s extraordinary assistance in making it possible for Fiji to hold the 12th World Hindi Conference. He also praised India for its humanitarian aid and vaccination distribution efforts.

Rabuka has stated that the people of Fiji will benefit from the visa exemption deal because many Fijians travel to India for medical treatment and educational opportunities.
