India gets first export order of BrahMos from Philippines

JNS: India got its first export orders of BrahMos— supersonic cruise missile from the Philippines.

BrahMos is made by India, an Indian-Russian supersonic cruise missile system. Philippines approved a contract worth of 374.96 million USD for the purchase of shore-based anti-ship variant of the missile from India. According to the official report, discussions are ongoing with a few other South East Asian counties too.

The Secretary of National Defence of Philippines, Delfin Lorenzana, has signed the ‘Notice of award’ for the purchase, the contract for which is expected to be signed very soon, reported media.

BrahMos is capable of being launched from land and sea for surface and sea-based targets. The missile’s range was restricted to 290 kilometers under the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), it said.

Notably, in June 2016, that India became a member of the Multilateral Trade and Investment Regime (MTIR).
