Dhaka Air Crash: India Sends Medical Team

New Delhi/Dhaka: In the wake of the tragic air crash in Dhaka that claimed at least 32 lives, including many children, and left 165 injured, India has swiftly extended medical support to Bangladesh.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed late Tuesday that a team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses, equipped with necessary medical supplies, is being dispatched to Dhaka to assist in the treatment of the injured.

“They will assess patients’ conditions and recommend further treatment or specialised care in India, if required,” the MEA said. It also indicated that more medical teams may follow based on the initial assessment.

A Bangladeshi foreign ministry official told The Daily Star that the country is prioritising burn care specialists and equipment over financial aid, and has received offers of medical support from Singapore, China, Japan, and India.

The tragedy occurred on Monday when a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into a school in Dhaka’s Uttara area. The crash caused a massive fire, leading to numerous burn injuries and devastating loss of life, particularly among schoolchildren.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, posting on X:
“Deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives, many of them young students, in a tragic air crash in Dhaka. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We pray for the swift recovery of those injured. India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”
