Jharkhand Urdu Teachers Association Calls for Increasing Retirement Age to 62

Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers Association has urged the state government to raise the retirement age of teachers and other state employees from 60 to 62 years. A memorandum outlining this demand has been submitted to both the Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Amin Ahmed, the Central General Secretary of the Association, highlighted the disparity in retirement ages between different educational cadres. He pointed out that while university teachers in Jharkhand retire at 65, primary, secondary, and higher secondary teachers retire at 60. Ahmed argued that this five-year service gap is neither fair nor appropriate, given that educational work is conducted at both levels.

“If university teachers can teach until 65, why can’t state teachers? Do they lack the ability or qualification? This is a crucial question that the government must address,” Ahmed stated.

He emphasized that experienced and qualified teachers are essential for quality education, and the shortage of such teachers and state employees is negatively impacting both education and departmental functions in Jharkhand.

The Association pointed out that after the formation of Jharkhand, states like Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh have increased the retirement age of state employees to 62. They suggested that Jharkhand should follow this example for the benefit of its teachers and employees.

The memorandum also noted that the state has not been filling vacancies caused by retirements, nor has it been promoting long-serving teachers. This situation has led to teachers and employees feeling demoralized and depressed.

The Chief Minister and Chief Secretary have been requested to consider increasing the retirement age of experienced and skilled teachers and employees to 62 years to ensure the success of quality education initiatives.

The representatives of the Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers Association who presented the memorandum included Central General Secretary Amin Ahmed, Vice President Sabir Ahmed, Spokesperson Shahzad Anwar, and members Mohd. Fakhruddin, Maqsood Zafar Hadi, Sarwar Alam, among others.
