New Delhi: In a major leadership reset before a high-stakes election year, former Bihar minister and five-time MLA Nitin Nabin on Tuesday formally assumed charge as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), becoming the youngest leader to hold the post at just 45.

Elected unopposed after completing all internal party procedures, Nabin succeeds Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who led the party since 2020. His elevation comes months before assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala, placing him at the helm during a politically decisive phase.

The charge-taking ceremony at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi turned into a show of strength, with senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah congratulating the new president.

In a lighter moment that drew applause from party workers, PM Modi remarked, “When it comes to party work, I am just a worker, and Nitin Nabin-ji is my boss. Now he is the president of all of us. His role is not only to run the BJP but also to ensure coordination across all NDA allies.”

Describing Nabin as a leader of a new generation, Modi said he represents a bridge between eras. “He grew up listening to news on the radio and now works confidently with AI. He brings both youthful energy and solid experience,” the Prime Minister said.

Representing Bankipur in Bihar, Nabin thanked the party leadership for the trust placed in him. “An ordinary worker like me has been given the highest responsibility in the party. I bow to all our leaders and workers for this honour,” he said.

Reflecting on the BJP’s rise, he added, “If the BJP is the world’s largest political party today, it is because of our leadership, ideology, and the tireless dedication of our workers.”

With key state elections on the horizon, Nitin Nabin’s appointment signals the BJP’s focus on generational leadership and organisational unity as it prepares for the next electoral battle.
