Ranchi: The Department of Ophthalmology at Bhagwan Mahaveer Medica Superspeciality Hospital recently celebrated a significant advancement in eye care education with the successful hosting of the “Optometry CME and Workshop 2024.”
The event, organised by the Center of Ophthalmic Research and Training (CORT), was aimed at advancing the skills and knowledge of optometrists and ophthalmic support staff.
During the workshop, Dr. Vijay Kumar Mishra, Medical Director and chief guest, unveiled exciting news for the region: Jharkhand will soon be home to a new optometry college. The forthcoming institution will offer both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in optometry, marking a major step forward in local educational opportunities for eye care professionals.
Dr. Mishra underscored the importance of this new college, which aims to provide high-quality education and training for local practitioners, thereby enhancing the standards of eye care in the region.
The workshop featured comprehensive hands-on sessions led by Dr. Anindya Anuradha, Head of the Department, and supported by consultants Dr. Ritika Sharma and Dr. Archana Kumari. Participants engaged in practical training on essential topics such as slit lamp examination, Goldmann applanation tonometry, and retinoscopy, facilitated by the experienced optometrists from Medica Hospital.
The event also included case presentations, interactive quizzes, and in-depth discussions, further enriching the learning experience.
