Among India’s Highest Civilian Honours
The **Padma Awards—Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri—**are among India’s highest civilian decorations. Instituted in 1954, the honours recognise individuals for exceptional service and distinguished achievements across a wide spectrum of disciplines.
These include art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, and trade and industry, among several other fields.
The government has urged citizens, institutions and organisations to actively participate in the nomination process and help identify individuals whose work has made a meaningful impact on society.
