President Murmu Presents 58th Jnanpith Award to Sanskrit Scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu today honored renowned Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya with the 58th Jnanpith Award at a ceremony in New Delhi. The prestigious 2023 award was jointly conferred upon Jagadguru Rambhadracharya and celebrated Urdu poet and lyricist Gulzar, who was unable to attend due to health reasons.

In her address, President Murmu congratulated both awardees and emphasized literature’s powerful role in uniting and awakening society. She highlighted the historical impact of writers and poets—from the social reforms of the 19th century to India’s freedom struggle—citing Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s iconic song “Vande Mataram” as a lasting symbol of inspiration for generations.

Speaking on Jagadguru Rambhadracharya’s achievements, the President praised his exemplary dedication to literary excellence and expressed hope that his life and work would inspire future generations in literary creation, social progress, and nation-building.

President Murmu also lauded the Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust for its long-standing commitment since 1965 to honoring outstanding literary figures across diverse Indian languages, thereby preserving the award’s prestige and promoting Indian literature.

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya expressed his gratitude for the recognition, warmly acknowledging the honor bestowed upon his literary contributions.
