Washington/Tehran/Beirut: The US State Department has urged American citizens in Iran to leave the country immediately following a partial reopening of its airspace after recent conflict-related disruptions. A parallel advisory has also been issued for Lebanon, highlighting growing regional instability.
Limited Flights, Uncertain Conditions in Iran
Iran has resumed limited international transit routes after days of airspace restrictions triggered by escalating tensions. However, US officials warned that the reopening is partial and fragile, with the possibility of sudden changes, cancellations, or renewed closures.
Authorities stressed that while some commercial flights may be operating, the security situation remains unpredictable.
Advisory: ‘Leave Now While Options Exist’
The US government has advised its citizens in Iran to leave without delay while exit routes remain accessible. Travellers are being asked to monitor local updates closely and prioritise commercial flights.
For those unable to secure flights, land exits via neighbouring countries—such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Turkmenistan—have been suggested as alternatives.

Warning Against High-Risk Routes
At the same time, the advisory strongly cautions against travel through conflict-prone areas. US nationals have been specifically warned to avoid crossing into Afghanistan and Iraq due to heightened security risks.
Lebanon Advisory: ‘Depart While Flights Are Available’
In a related alert, the U.S. Embassy has urged American citizens in Lebanon to leave the country while commercial flight options are still available.
“The security environment remains complex and can change quickly,” the embassy said, advising citizens to depart immediately if possible. Those choosing to stay have been urged to prepare contingency plans for emergencies and closely monitor news developments.

Limited Consular Support in Iran
The situation in Iran is further complicated by the absence of a US embassy, limiting Washington’s ability to provide direct assistance. Citizens are largely dependent on self-arranged evacuation plans and indirect diplomatic channels.
Regional Tensions Drive Alerts
The advisories come amid heightened instability across West Asia, where recent military escalations have disrupted travel and raised security concerns. With uncertainties persisting, US authorities have reiterated that leaving affected areas at the earliest opportunity remains the safest course of action.
