Bokaro: On Doctor’s Day, while the nation celebrated the tireless service of medical professionals, Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited (VISL) highlighted how healthcare is reaching India’s villages through its flagship Project Aarogya. The initiative has already touched the lives of more than 2.3 lakh people, bringing affordable medical care, preventive health services and doorstep treatment to underserved communities across the country.
The initiative focuses on strengthening primary healthcare by operating Mobile Health Units (MHUs), organizing health camps, preventive health awareness drives, maternal and gynaecological care programmes, blood donation campaigns, distribution of medical equipment and nutritional support for tuberculosis patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Since FY24, Project Aarogya has benefited over 2.3 lakh people across VISL’s operational regions in Jharkhand, Goa, Karnataka, Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat. During the same period, employees, workers and business partners voluntarily donated more than 3,500 units of blood, contributing to critical healthcare services.

At ESL Steel Limited, Bokaro, Mobile Health Units currently provide doorstep healthcare to residents of 27 villages surrounding the plant. Equipped with qualified medical professionals and basic diagnostic facilities, the units offer free consultations, early diagnosis and essential treatment, significantly reducing travel costs and improving access to medical care. The company also organizes mega health camps, specialized gynaecology camps and menstrual hygiene awareness programmes.
Ravish Sharma, CEO & Whole-Time Director, ESL Steel Limited, said quality healthcare is the foundation of strong and resilient communities. He noted that Project Aarogya is helping bridge healthcare gaps by bringing affordable medical services closer to villages while promoting preventive healthcare and awareness. He also expressed gratitude to doctors, nurses and all frontline healthcare professionals for their dedicated service.
Sharing his experience, Ajay Kumar Mahto, a beneficiary from Kasi Tola village in Alkusha, said Vedanta’s doctors visit the village twice every month, providing free medical consultations and medicines. He said the initiative has greatly benefited people of all age groups by ensuring timely treatment without financial burden.
VISL is also supporting the Nikshay Mitra initiative under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, providing nutritional assistance to tuberculosis patients. In Jharkhand, more than 1,200 TB patients have received support, reinforcing the company’s focus on holistic healthcare that extends beyond treatment to recovery and nutrition.
Marking Doctor’s Day, the company saluted the dedication of doctors, nurses, paramedics and community health workers whose efforts continue to make healthcare more accessible, inclusive and compassionate across rural India.
