New Delhi: Popular YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, known for her travel channel “Travel with Jo”, has been accused of being groomed as a Pakistani intelligence asset, according to police investigating an espionage network linked to Pakistan.
With nearly 4 lakh subscribers, Malhotra is now at the centre of a high-profile probe spanning northern India. Hisar Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan stated that although Malhotra did not have access to classified defence information, she was in regular contact with Pakistani officials and public information officers (PIOs), including Danish, a Pakistani officer posted at the High Commission in New Delhi.
“She was being developed as an asset to push a narrative,” said Sawan, highlighting concerns over the use of influencers in psychological and information warfare.
Malhotra’s frequent visits to Pakistan, including a 2023 trip on a 10-day visa where she met intelligence officials and attended high-profile events, triggered security concerns. She reportedly stored contacts under fake names and maintained communication via encrypted platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat.
Following India’s Operation Sindoor—launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack—Malhotra remained in touch with Pakistani officials, according to investigators. She also travelled to China shortly after, raising further suspicions due to her access to luxury services during both visits.
India expelled Danish on May 13 for alleged espionage. Malhotra was arrested two days later. Authorities have seized her electronic devices and continue to investigate her connections.
