Patna: The 21st Battalion of the Bihar Regiment celebrated its 44th Foundation Day on Sunday with a ceremonial event at the Bihar Regiment Centre (BRC) in Danapur Cantonment. The battalion, raised on July 20, 1981, under Lt Col Mohd Mansoor Mallick, has lived by its proud motto — “Karam Hi Dharma Hai” (Duty is our religion).
The celebrations began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the BRC War Memorial, led by BRC Commandant Brigadier Kamal Deep Jaspal, who, along with retired officers and serving personnel, paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs.
Brigadier Jaspal lauded the battalion’s distinguished record in multiple high-stakes operations. “From the freezing heights of Himachal to the volatile zones of Uri, the 21st Battalion has displayed exceptional courage and commitment,” he said.
The battalion’s operational journey includes deployments in Himachal Pradesh (1982–85), the northeast during Operation Bajrang (1990), and the intense Uri sector during Operation Rakshak (1999–2003), where they countered infiltration attempts and insurgency under extreme conditions. In 2014, they also participated in Operation Alert, a mission that involved counter-insurgency efforts and flood rescue operations.
The event reflected the battalion’s legacy of resilience and valour that continues to inspire generations of Indian soldiers.
